A Canadian soldier who had his foot blown off while in Afghanistan last year has died of what appears to be a suicide.
Private Frédéric Couture of the Royal 22nd Regiment died on Wednesday at his parents' home in Roxton Pond, southeast of Montreal.
Pte. Couture's mother had felt that he wasn't the same after he returned home, according to former army sergeant Georges Dumont.
Mr. Dumont, who has served in Somalia and Haiti, is part of a veterans' support group and has sued Ottawa for failing to provide proper treatment for soldiers suffering from post traumatic stress disorder.
